At CBR Group, we know that no two moves are ever exactly the same — and the season you choose to move can make a big difference. Many people underestimate how weather conditions, peak periods and seasonal demands can affect their relocation. Whether you’re planning to move in the heat of summer, during the chilly Canberra winter, or around a busy holiday period, the right preparation can help you avoid delays, damage, or unnecessary stress. Here’s what you need to know to make your move a breeze in any season.

Summer Moves: Beat the Heat
Summer is one of the most popular times to move house, especially for families who want to settle in before the new school year. But it can also be the most challenging. High temperatures can affect your energy levels — and your furniture, too. Try to book your move as early in the day as possible to avoid the worst of the afternoon heat. Keep plenty of water and sunscreen on hand for you and your movers, and don’t forget to plan for pets. Heat can also cause damage to sensitive items like electronics, candles, and artwork. At CBR Group, we use protective packing and careful loading to ensure your belongings arrive in perfect condition, no matter the temperature.

Winter Moves: Stay Dry and Warm
In Canberra, a winter move can come with frosty mornings, cold winds and the chance of rain. Make sure pathways are clear and dry to prevent slips and damage. Protect carpets and floors in both homes with drop sheets or mats to minimise mud and moisture.

Extra care should be taken when transporting delicate items that could become brittle in the cold. Our professional removalists know how to pack and handle your belongings to keep them safe in any weather.

Spring and Autumn: Peak Period Pitfalls
Spring and autumn can be ideal for moving because the weather is milder. However, these seasons are also peak periods for real estate sales — which means removalists book up quickly. If you’re moving during these popular months, lock in your preferred dates early. A reliable moving partner like CBR Group will help you plan around settlement dates and keep you informed so you’re not left scrambling at the last minute.

Watch Out for Public Holidays and School Breaks
Public holidays and school breaks can be double-edged swords. While you might have more time off work, removalists can be in high demand, and traffic conditions can be unpredictable. Plan ahead to avoid paying premium rates or dealing with last-minute scheduling conflicts. If possible, move mid-week or mid-month when demand is lower.

Flexible Storage as a Backup Plan
Seasonal weather can be unpredictable. A sudden downpour or heatwave can cause delays, especially if you’re moving long distance or interstate. That’s why having a secure storage solution as a backup can save you time and worry. At CBR Group, we offer flexible short-term and long-term storage options to keep your belongings safe if your moving date shifts unexpectedly.

Work with Experienced Movers
No matter what the season brings, having experienced removalists on your side makes a world of difference. From bringing the right equipment for wet weather to securing items that could be damaged by heat or frost, our team knows how to protect your possessions.

At CBR Group, we monitor weather forecasts, plan safe loading and unloading, and communicate clearly with you every step of the way. It’s all about giving you peace of mind — whatever Mother Nature throws your way.
